CINNIBAR BUTTON

This is a common style of Cinnibar button in red colour. It has a tin back on which many layers of lacquer have been laid which are then carved in a floral design. The back has been painted red and it has a brass loop shank. It measures a little over 3 cm.

CELLULOID BUTTON

Here is a Celluloid button in a nice mustard colour. The centre is domed embossed brass with paintwork in purple and orange. It has a japanned tin back. The paintwork is a little worse for wear which is a common problem in old buttons.

BAKELITE BUTTONS

Here are two chunky carved Bakelite buttons both of which are rather nice. One is applejuice bakelite and the other a nice orange colour. They measure a little over 2 cm and both have a brass loop shank.

WHITE METAL BUTTON

This button is a limited edition made by Battersea Ltd. England in 1978. It features a tower and church amongst the trees and the detail is rather fine. It measures 3 1/2cm.

LEA STEIN BUTTONS

This little group of three colourful buttons were made in France in the 1960’s by Lea Stein. The colours are better in reality. They have layers of colours which are cut away to reveal the colour underneath. They are quite striking.

METAL AND MOP BUTTON

This button is quite different being a metal base with a Mother of Pearl disc attached. It is embellished with some heart shaped filigree work with “jewells” added and looks a little regal. It measures 3 cm.

PORCELAIN BUTTONS

This little group of white porcelain buttons were made by Mack in England in the 1980’s – 90’s. They are transfer printed with a hand painted edge and have a self shank.

PERSPEX BUTTON

This button is the only one of it’s type that I have in my collection. It is square shaped with tiny pretty yellow and purple flowers embedded in it. It is angled down to the back on all sides and has a brass loop shank.

BUCKLES

Here are two Satsuma porcelain half buckles. It is a pity that so many buckles have been lost or destroyed leaving only half. One has a rich blue border on a floral design and is an hexagonal shape. The other has a scalloped edge with flowers and a bird. There is a lot of gold work on this one.

GLASS BUTTON

This is a beautiful glass paperweight button. It is a brilliant blue colour with white flowers. It has a brass loop shank. I find things made of glass fascinating.
