GLASS BUTTONS

Here we have two groups of clear coloured glass buttons. They are simple in their design and have a nice clean look about them. I am not sure if you call them Depression Glass. If so, that would make them in the 1930s.

ENAMEL BUTTON

Here is an enamel button with a spray of purple flowers on a white background. The dark purple border is decorative and stands out nicely against the white. It measures a little over 2 1/2 cm.

ENAMEL BUTTONS

These two modern enamel buttons I think are from Japan. The first one has a white rose on a red background and the other has simplistic white flowers on a blue background. The red one is a slightly smaller at a little under 2 cm while the blue one is a little under 2 1/2 cm. They are both enamelled on white metal and have a loop shank.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a metal picture button with a wooden background which is a little different. It has a decorative border and shows a bird with a sprig of flowers. The brass has been painted black and then rubbed back giving it a dark overall appearance. It measures just under 4 cm so is quite large.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTON

Here is a rather nice etched Mother of Pearl button featuring a bird. It is quite a thick button and has a different attachment on the back. It was given to me maybe 20 years ago not long after I started collecting buttons.

CELLULOID BUTTONS

I always consider these two buttons a pair only because they are the same colour and both have a brass trim. The first one has a brass square in the centre which has a flower design. The second one has nine small brass squares with a cross design. As usual on this type of button they have a japanned back. They measure a little over 2 1/2 cm.

CELLULOID BUTTON

This is an interesting Celluloid and Brass button which belongs to my friend Di. It has several moulded aqua celluloid flowers attached to a brass mesh base. There are two different types of flowers. I have not seen another button like it. It has a brass loop shank.

BAKELITE BUTTON

This Bakelite button is just a little different being square and bakelite being set into a brass base. It has an embossed back showing a floral design which is nearly more interesting than the front. I do not know why they would make the back decorative. It measures 2 1/4cm.

BAKELITE BUTTONS

I like carved bakelite buttons, lots being dark brown or black. These two are more colourful, the first being Applejuice bakelite. They are chunky and I guess could only be used on thick material. They both have a brass loop shank.

ENAMEL BUTTON

This is a rather striking enamel button with the pink and blue flowers standing out nicely against the black background. It has a border of cut steels which make it look a bit classy. At 3 cm in diameter it is a nice size.
