BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

Here we have three black glass buttons with the imitation fabric look. They were a popular look in the early 1900s as they imitated the fabrics of the day e.g. taffeta. One has a fourway box shank and the other two a self shank. They look better in reality as they don’t photograph well.

BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

I do like black glass buttons and although I have quite a lot I couldn’t leave these ones at the recent Buttonfest.  They were cheap and in good order.  Some of them have an Art Deco look while the others are a more scrolly design.

BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

Here are two black glass buttons with gold lustre in the centre.  The third button has a dotty design and has a four way metal box shank.

They are new to my collection having been bought in opp shops in England recently by my friend Margaret.  She enjoyed poking around in all the villages and it was a nice surprise for me.

IRIDESCENT BLACK GLASS

These three buttons are all quite decorative in design and have a real sparkle with their iridescent lustre.

They are a nice size being 2  1/2cm. The third one has a metal four way box shank and the other two have self shanks so are not quite so old.

BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

These buttons both have a head incised into the glass.

One is plain while the other one has a fancy border.  They both have a metal loop shank and are just a little over 1 cm in diameter.  They were part of a small private button collection that I bought in November, 2017.
