This is a nice group of black glass buttons with cut out design incorporating black braid in the centre. They have a brass loop shank and are 1 1/2cm. They are Victorian and I think very classy.
BLACK GLASS
I find these buttons fascinating. The centre piece is a small crochet type circle embedded into the glass. There are four holes in the glass where some thread comes through to the back to make a cross to form a “shank” for sewing the button on.
Unfortunately I cut the thread by mistake on one so the button fell apart and I only have two. The only plus to that is that it shows the construction. I think it is a Victorian button.
BLACK GLASS BUTTONS
Here are more black glass buttons, this time with a silver lustre.
The second group are more Art Deco style and so different to the first group which would be older.
BLACK GLASS BUTTONS
Black glass buttons have been made for many years, especially in the first part of the 20th Century. There must have been thousands of different designs made.
Firstly we see a black glass buckle and some buttons, then two groups of black glass buttons with a gold lustre.
To me they always look smart.
BLACK GLASS BUTTONS
Here is a group of little black glass buttons, several with a different pattern.
Most of them have a brass loop shank, a couple having self shanks. They are all under 12mm in diameter.
BLACK GLASS BUTTON
This picture button depicts a hunter and his hounds hunting deer.
It is made of moulded black glass.
BLACK GLASS
Being square, these black glass buttons are just a little bit different. One has a silver lustre. I think both the designs are very nice; especially the one with the lustre. It also has a four way metal box shank whilst the black one has a self shank and therefore not as old. There were many black glass buttons made over the years.
