Here is an original old button card with the beautiful art work of the time and the wording on the back. There are twelve utilitarian pearl buttons attached which have never been used. They were made in the U.S.A. If you buy buttons on a card these days there is no nice artwork, just another sign of the times.
BUTTON CARD
Here is an original Beutron card with enamel buttons. They are modern and depict The Queen of Hearts. They are a little different being rectangular. The colours are nice and bright but do not show up so well in the photo.
BUTTON FOLDER
This folder of Bone buttons comes from Italy and is marked “Ultima Novita” which translates as Latest or Utmost Novelty. It also says “Indespensabile in Ogni Famiglia” meaning Necessary in every family. It is complete with no buttons missing which is great.
BUTTON CARDS
Here are two original Button cards which I have just obtained. One is Lady Fashion Quality Pearls and the other is trademarked Luckday.
The type of advertising always intrigues me on these older cards as it is so different to today’s advertising.
BUTTON CARD
This button card is headed “Fashionable Buttons” and was made in England.
My friend Margaret got it at an opp shop recently while on holidays in England. That makes it a little bit special for me. It is always nice to find buttons on their original card.
REPRODUCTION BUTTON CARDS
I bought these reproduction button cards as is in Melbourne quite a few years ago.
They all have various old plastic buttons sewn on them. They really took my eye at the time as I thought they were well displayed. Of course original cards are much better. The black Scottie Dogs are just so cute!
BUTTON CARDS
Here are more buttons on their original cards. Actually, one is a buckle.
The art work on them is very appealing and would have been a good advertising tool in their day. I love to have buttons on their original cards. It just adds another dimension to them and can help date them.
BUTTON SAMPLE CARD
Here is an interesting small Italian sample card of buttons.
They are a bright gold metal (maybe gilded!) with different coloured painted centres.
Part of the writing on the back translates as “Free Sample, Of Modest Value, Unique Colours” I guess the date is 6.10.78.
BUTTON CARDS
These button cards are all original and also all the buttons are made of glass. Three lots are made in Czechoslovakia.
The cards are lovely with their gold lettering and have a certain charm about them. They are so different to the cards of buttons in the shops today. Advertising has changed such a lot in the way things are displayed now.
BUTTON CARDS
Here are two original button cards complete with all buttons.
One has 24 purple buttons made with braid being wound around a wooden mould. They were made in England.
The other being made in Germany has 6 large fawn and purple buttons made from some type of plastic. Their colour is quite unusual.
