CASEIN BUTTONS

These black and white buttons were very popular in the 1930’s.  The colours and designs contrast nicely.  I have quite a few of this type of button but these two are new to my collection.

CASEIN BUTTON

This pattern with it’s white stripes on the green background is typically Art Deco.   It is a plastic button ( I think Casein)  The geometric design is very effective. I guess there were other colours made in this design which would each be pleasing.   It measures a little over 3 cm.

CASEIN BUTTONS

Casein is termed a plastic (being a by product from milk with an additive to harden it)  Many buttons were made from this during the 1930’s and 40’s.  The ones I have shown are all black and white and they certainly make a statement.  Some have several layers of alternate black and white which have then been cut back through the layers at different angles giving a really good look. Others have been carved through the top black layer to reveal the white underneath.  They appeal to me.
