MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTON

This beautifully etched MOP button features a lovely little bird and some flowers.

The back view shows the unusual brass shank attachment.  I find this a very good quality and interesting button.  It measures 2  1/2cm.  A lady gave me her button jar to go through and I found it there so it was a nice surprise.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTON

This is yet another button of which I only have one of it’s type.

The delicately painted figures are on shell which has been set into a fine silver base.  It is a Persian button and has a hand made appearance making it very appealing.  It is just over 2 cm  x 1  1/2cm.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS AND BUCKLES

Firstly I show a small MOP buckle and some tiny shanked buttons on their original card.

A large round MOP buckle ( being 6  1/2cm ) is depicted in the second picture as well as some buttons ( some with brass shanks and rings ) . Mother of pearl has been used to make thousands of buttons even to man’s common shirt button.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS

Here are four MOP buttons all being over 3 cm in diameter.

Three have been carved in different patterns and are sew through style buttons.  The other one has a ring of different shell inset into the middle of the button.  It has a metal loop shank.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS

Here are three lovely carved MOP buttons, each with a fascinating design.  I especially like the one with the floral pattern in the centre.

They are quite large; the  largest one in the centre being just over 3  1/2cm in diameter.  The natural colours are also beautiful.

MOTHER OF PEARL

Each of these small frames hold  six small MOP buttons. One frame has mainly carved buttons with some fabulous designs.  One button has a brass escutcheon of a fan.The other frame has a nice variety of MOP buttons which include cut steel, a brass head, a metal pear and leaves and one brass button with MOP inset and lovely decorative floral design. Aren’t they just so lovely.
