This button is unusual both in colour and design. I guess it may be from the 1960s. It is of bright yellow plastic with a silver filigree domed centre. Under the dome it is of an iridescent pink which is a great contrast to the yellow. I wonder what garment it would have been worn on.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
Here are several old plastic buttons of various sizes, colours and periods. I keep them in a divided box just for interest sake. They are too good to throw out but not good enough to mount on a card. I do not know their age but guess they could be from the 1940s – 50s. Sometimes I just tip them onto a tray and “play” with them. They are quite tactile. The colours are not as gaudy as those of today.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
I think these two plastic buttons are actually Casein and probably from the 1930s. I do not know my plastics so usually generalize. They are very shiny and in good condition. They are both sew through type; one having four holes and the other two. The red and white makes quite a statement.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
This trio of buttons are of a cream plastic with a white glass centre which has a leaf design in gold. They are a little different and measure just under 3 1/2 cm. I bought them from a lady who had inherited her Aunty’s button box.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
Here are two modern plastic buttons which are just a bit of fun. One is Betty Boop and the other a Flapper Girl. I don’t know that I would want them on a garment but they are good for a collection. I have just looked up BBB and they are Laser cut, surface coloured polyester made in Brazil for JHB International about 1998. I bought them at the Haberdashery store.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
Here are two black and white buttons from the 1930s I think. I find them striking and have quite a nice collection of them. I think they may be Casein but I do not know all the different plastics so just generalize. I love collecting buttons but am not very knowledgeable about them but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying them.
LARGE PLASTIC BUTTONS
At 6 cms in diameter these two buttons are very large. They would be for a cloak or coat. The bright brown one is a sew through type. The other one is a mottled greenish brown and has a brass loop shank.
PLASTIC BOW BUTTONS
I have just acquired these Plastic Bow Buttons at an Opp shop in a little town called Meeniyan in Southern Victoria. They were in a $2 jar of buttons so I was very pleased. There were 2 red glass buttons also so I was pretty pleased with that.
PLASTIC BUTTON
This button was given to me by a lady from South Africa. It is rather unusual with a floral design on the front and an impressed geometric design on the back. It is a mottley apricot colour. I find it fascinating.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
My friend Jacqui found this group of old buttons amongst her sewing bits and pieces. They are nearly all plastic buttons of some sort mostly in a shade of brown.
