PLASTIC BUTTONS

These buttons were amongst those in the Collection that I recently bought.

I guess they are Acrylic or some type of plastic and are modern.  They are realistic buttons of a flower and are a really brilliant red.

OLD PLASTIC BUTTONS

This is an interesting group of oldish plastic buttons.

The first spiral type button has a nice colour combination.  The second one is a kind of terracotta and black scheme while the third is another spiral design in nice earthy colours. I am always amazed at all the different designs and never tire of them.

PLASTIC BUTTON

This is a very unusual button although I would suggest not very practical.

I believe it may be bakelite ( not sure!)  and has a plastic coated wire wound around it as a trim on the realistic seahorse.  It is maybe from the late 1940’s and measures 4  1/2cm X 2  1/2cm.

PLASTIC BUTTON

I do not know the age of this button nor the exact material used.  It appears new to me although I am not sure.

The flower etched into one side is rather nice with three small diamentes in the centre.  The button is angled down on two sides also giving a great effect.  It is a lovely deep rich red colour and all in all a great button measuring just under 3 cm.

PLASTIC BUTTON

Black with creamy/green mottled centre with a striped border,  I think this button is a very effective design and would look smart on a plain fabric.   It is some type of plastic and has a metal  loop  shank.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

Although simple in design I find these buttons rather pleasing.  The circle of gold just adds a nice touch.  They each have a brass pin shank, the top of which you can see in the middle. They are from the 1940’s – 50’s  era.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

A lot of these buttons are opp shop finds over the years.  They are various old plastics but simple as they may seem they still take place in the history of fashion.  I think it wise to keep some of them so they may be slotted into their particular period in time.  They may not be beautiful but are still important.

PRESSED PLASTICS

These groups of buttons I have sewn onto a banner in colour groups.  They are from the 1940’s and I like their simplicity and colours.  The colours are much more subtle than those of today.
