GLASS BUTTONS

What a lovely bright group of glass buttons with a swirly pattern. They look so different because of all the various colour combinations painted on them but are in fact all the same design.  The base glass colour is different on them too.

They are just over 2  1/2 cm in diameter and have a metal four way box shank. I guess they could be from the 1920’s.

BAKELITE BUTTONS

These Bakelite buttons are reasonably small being just over 2cm.

Two are tortoiseshell type, one with gold speck inclusions and one with a brass trim.  The other button is dark brown also having a brass decoration.

BLACK GLASS

I find these buttons fascinating.  The centre piece is a small crochet type circle embedded into the glass.  There are four holes in the glass where some thread comes through to the back to make a cross to form a “shank” for sewing the button on.

Unfortunately I cut the thread by mistake on one so the button fell apart and I only have two. The only plus to that is that it shows the construction.   I think it is a Victorian button.

METAL BUTTONS

Both of these buttons have been painted, one black, the other white.  The gold of the metal makes a nice contrast.

The white one is backmarked – GLSETZLICH & GESTHUTZT.  They are just over 2 cm in diameter.

AUSTRIAN TINIES

Here are three nice buttons with some brown velvet and a leaf like design made from cut steels.  I think the background may be brown Celluloid.  It always amazes me at how much detail can be put into such a small button.

I really love these tiny little gems.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

These buttons were amongst those in the Collection that I recently bought.

I guess they are Acrylic or some type of plastic and are modern.  They are realistic buttons of a flower and are a really brilliant red.
