Here is a hand painted wooden Russian button featuring a real grizzly bear walking in the woods. It is nice strong bright colours and has a real sheen to it. As you can see it is signed on the back and has the number 94 which I am assuming may be 1994. It is quite a nice size at just under 4 cm.

This Metal Picture button depicts Moses in the Bullrushes. It is amazing how they get so much detail onto such a small space. So much effort was put into making buttons back in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Here is a metal picture button showing an Egyptian lady kneeling by some flowers. I do not know how old it is or what metal is used so in other words I do not know much about it at all !! I know there was an era when Egyptian style things were the fashion and I have a buckle from that time. The button measures 3 cm.

Here are three different Celluloid buttons all in shades of brown. One has a buffed celluloid centre which makes it more interesting. A lot of the Celluloid buttons are brown or black especially the larger ones I guess because back in that era clothes were of duller, plainer colours. The pattern in the celluloid of the first button is quite interesting just the same.

This celluloid button is by Marion Weeber, USA and from the 1940s. It is the only one of her buttons that I have and I am pleased to have it. The fruit and leaves are delicately moulded and coloured in a pleasing way. It measures 3 1/2cm so is a nice size.

Here is a group of modern bone buttons of different shapes. I quite like square buttons for a change. These buttons have been coloured a sepia colour and rubbed back to show up the various design which are simple and sort of geometric. They are all two hole sew through type.

Here are two hand painted plastic buttons by Edith and Alan Brooks, England from the 1960s. They are so precisely done and simple in their design but very effective. They are the only two I have in my collection. I have seen some really lovely ones on the net and they are quite expensive now. I love their bright colours, freshness and clarity.

Here are three modern plastic buttons, all black with another colour incorporated in their design. They are all striking and I think the black contrast does that. I especially like the middle one.

This metal picture button shows a building; I think it is called Italian Villa. It has a very ornate border under which is a shiny silver metal ring. The button is much nicer in reality and measures 3 1/2 cm.

These two metal buttons are modern. one being gold and the other white metal. They are realistics and nicely made with good detail and not very big.
