PLASTIC BUTTONS

We have two groups of hat buttons, the green Tyrolean hats are jazzy with their red feather.  They have a brass loop shank.

The bonnets with ribbon around are colourful and have a self shank.

SATSUMA BUTTON

Here is another beautiful Satsuma porcelain button.

I am very fond of them, especially those with figures painted on them.  It is a little bit different having the figure by a window.  It measures just over 2 cm.

METAL BUTTON

This is a limited edition button made by Battersea Ltd. in 1978.

It is made from Pewter with a matte finish and features a tower, churches with steeples, bushes and trees.  This is done in very fine detail.

The button is 3  1/2 cm in diameter so quite large and has a loop shank.

WOODEN BUTTONS

The first button has some simple lines carved in it and four cut steels added. I do not know how old it is and it appears hand made to me.

The second one is triangular in shape with a carved design.  It is a sew through type and just a little bit different.

METAL BUTTON

Art Nouveau is the style of this button.

It has a floral theme with lovely etched leaves and a flower suggested with three cut steels.  Some paint has been added to give a little colour.  It has a great cut out design showing all the flowing curved lines beautifully and is 3 cm in diameter.

GLASS BUTTONS

Orange glass buttons are not so common but I love their bright  cheery colour so am happy to have them in my collection.

These two both have a painted pattern which adds to their vibrancy.

BAKELITE BUTTONS

I have just bought these two buttons.  One is black bakelite with inlaid strips of Applejuice Bakelite.  It is a square button of 2  1/2 cm and looks great.

The other one is of carved dark brown Bakelite with an inlaid Applejuice centre.  It is just under 4 cm X 3 cm.  I think they are beaut buttons.

CERAMIC BUTTONS

Here are two groups of handmade Ceramic buttons which were made in Lima, Peru.

One lot has geometric patterns on a cream ground while the others are realistic flower buttons.  I bought them at a fair in 2002.  They have a  charming handmade look.

GLASS BUTTON ( LEO POPPER )

All buttons made by the firm of Leo Popper and Sons from New York City, USA were made before 1917.

They are multi coloured glass buttons mainly with a key shank.  Many have embedded foil or tinsel spangles which give the extra sparkly irridescent look.

I have three small ones but this one is much larger at approx 2 cm.  It is a new addition to my collection.
