NEW BUTTON

This is a large button measuring 5 cm and is rather striking with the black lace embedded in the middle.  The plastic is clear allowing the black to show through nicely.  I wonder what sort of garment you would use it on?

NEW BUTTONS (PLASTIC)

These two new buttons have a “stonelike” appearance to me.  It is amazing what effects can be achieved with various forms of plastic.

They have a rough textured look and feel like something natural.  I show the back of the darker one.  They are sew throughs and measure 2 cm.

NEW BUTTONS (PLASTIC)

These “new” buttons have been bought in shops in the last 10-12 years and I keep them together in a box marked so.

The two cream coloured plastic buttons are rather quaint with their modern stylized cat pictures on them.  They are a little over 2  1/2cm and are sew through buttons.

PLASTIC SNAP TOGETHER BUTTONS

These modern plastic buttons have been around since the 1980’s.

As the name suggests, the top part of the button which has the shank snaps into the bottom piece which is a different colour.  Many were imported from Japan, England and France.  What a novelty they are and great for children’s clothes.

I have approximately 60 of these buttons sewn onto a banner and they are just a bit of fun and relevant to a period of fashion history.

The subject matters are many and varied and some that I show include busses and trains, elephants, penguins, cars, bears and beetles, just to name a few.  What great buttons for children to collect and aren’t we all “big kids at heart!”

METAL PICTURE BUTTONS

ORIENTAL LADY WITH PARASOL

Here is another brass picture button of an Oriental Lady with a Parasol in front of a Japanese building.  Once more the detail is good making a pleasing button.  It has a japanned back and metal loop shank and measures a little over 3 cm.

GOOSE  FLYING

This is a large button being over 4 cm.   It shows a goose (or is it a duck!!) flying over the water where three chicks are swimming.  It is tinted brass and quite an effective button.

CELLULOID IN METAL BUTTONS

I think that these four buttons  are of moulded celluloid in a cream and brown colour with a touch of gold.

They are set into brass with a japanned back and metal loop shank and are approx.  1  1/4cm.

METAL BALLSHAPED BUTTONS

Here are two painted ball shaped brass buttons which to me appear a little Indian.  They have different blues painted on them and the bottom half is plain brass with a loop shank.  They are approx.  1  1/4 cm.

PAINTED METAL BUTTONS

These two little buttons are delightful although the paintwork is rather worn.  They are brass painted with red, pale blue and yellow and are ball shaped.  They have a tin back and measure 1 cm.

METAL BUTTON

This white metal button is quite large at 3 cm.

It is a rather dramatic design with three raised triangle shapes standing out against the filigree background.  It is a twinkle or mirror backed button.

METAL PICTURE BUTTONS

WAVING  GOODBYE

The lady stands on the balcony waving a hankie.  It is a brass button with a japanned back and metal loop shank.  The detail on this button is really great.  It measures 3  cm.

FANNY  DAVENPORT

This button is brass over a painted tin backing and shows the lady with her umbrella.  The brass border lies over a white metal liner.  It measures 2  1/2  cm.
