OLD BUTTON

This is a nice button comprising a cream background with a fancy brass overlay.  I am not sure if the cream is Celluloid or Painted Tin. (It has a really high gloss surface)

It has a tin back and shank and measures a little under 3 cm.  It was given to me recently.

NEW BUTTON

This button is quite large at just under 3  1/2cm.   It reminds me of the stone Tiger’s Eye.  It is of some type of plastic and set into a metal rim and has a metal loop shank inset into the back.  I think it is a smart button.

NEW BUTTON

Here is another new button which I bought at Jimmy Buttons recently.  It is very striking with the black and clear glass combination set in white metal.  It would look great on a plain fabric, especially evening wear.  It has a metal loop shank.

ART DECO BUTTONS

I believe these two buttons may be made from Casein.  They have the same cut away design with different colours.  Square buttons are just always a little bit different.  They measure a little  under 2 cm.

CHOOKS AND ROOSTERS BUTTONS

I belong to a small local button collector’s group who meet once a month at each other’s homes.

In 2011 we had a challenge to collect buttons of a theme.  I chose Chooks and Roosters and this is the result of my effort.  They are all modern apart from the hand painted white glass button in the middle.  It is set in white metal and I think quite charming.

The others are of various materials including wood, plastic, metal and ceramic.  They make up a nice display which I have mounted on hessian for a natural look.   I show a few individual photos too.

CARMEN MIRANDA – FILM STAR

Carmen Miranda was born in Portugal and moved to Brazil.  She was made famous in Hollywood as The Brazillian Bombshell in the 1930’s – 40’s.

I made up this colourful card of buttons to represent her as she wore fruit and flowers etc. in her headwear.   Just a bit of fun!

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS

Here are three modern mother of pearl buttons that were given to me by my friend Jacqui.  They have been coloured black before having the design etched on them and are very effective with a bird and some leaves. I guess they may be laser printed.  They are 2  1/2 cm. in diameter.

CASEIN BUTTON

This pattern with it’s white stripes on the green background is typically Art Deco.   It is a plastic button ( I think Casein)  The geometric design is very effective. I guess there were other colours made in this design which would each be pleasing.   It measures a little over 3 cm.

ART DECO BUTTONS

I love these buttons and was thrilled to be given them recently.

The stripey areas stand out on the complimentary plain colours.  They are a little over 2  1/2cm  and are from the 1920’s – 30’s period.
