The green and gold plaster button is quite chunky and has a metal plate and loop shank. The other button is maroon with gold trim and is a sew through type.
METAL PICTURE BUTTONS – KATE GREENAWAY
Kate Greenaway was a children’s book illustrator in England in the late 1800’s. She drew lots of little girls in bonnets and flowing dresses.
One button depicts two children sitting on a fence with a sunshade and it is titled “Summer.” It is a pierced white metal button and has been tinted purple. The other one shows four little girls and is of stamped brass. They are both rather small buttons at approx. 1 1/2cm.
METAL PICTURE BUTTONS
The design of these two buttons is the same, the larger one at 3 cm being solid metal and the smaller one at 2 cm being pierced brass.
They feature an Egyptian lady kneeling amongst the flowers. Both have a metal loop shank.
BAKELITE BUTTONS
The first button is large at a little under 5 cm. It is of mottley green bakelite and has a Mother of Pearl centre.
The second button is a two piece button with carving on both sections, one being green and the other brown. They both have a metal loop shank. I guess these would both be overcoat buttons and possibly from the 1940’s.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
This group of buttons are modern and I have collected them from opp shops over the years.
They combine coloured plastic with metalized plastic and are quite striking with the red, black and gold. They are two piece buttons and from the 1990’s onwards.
TAPE MEASURES
I have several of these small tape measures in my Sewing related items collection.
Some are souvenir items like the kangaroo and The London Bridge as shown. The tape is retractable by pushing the little button on the back.
GLASS BUTTONS
These clear glass buttons all have reverse painted designs which show through to the front.
The design is cut out on the back of the button and then painted. They are very effective and it is nice to have some with the paint work in a decent condition.
SILVER PIN CUSHIONS
Here are two silver pin cushions, one being a laced up boot. The other is a type of slipper with an elephant etched on it. Maybe it is Oriental e.g. from Thailand. They both have velvet cushions in them.
MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS
Here we have two small Mother of Pearl buckles accompanying a few buttons. They have been very popular over the years and are suitable for a variety of fabrics.
BAKELITE BUTTONS
This is a small group of five various Bakelite buttons. They are mostly a mottley blue colour and apart from the log shaped one are all sew through buttons.
