These three smallish glass buttons are in a reddish/brown type of colour which is Cranberry Glass. They have a design etched into them and filled with gold paint. I show the back with a self shank. They are the first type of this button for my collection.
PERSPEX AND METAL BUTTONS
These three buttons are quite large at 3 1/2 cm. They are each of clear Perspex with a pressed metal disc in the centre. The shank is also metal. They were common after the 2nd World war when Perspex from the windscreens of the planes was readily available.
TIME FOR A CHANGE
As my website is called Buttonsplus it gives me the option to post some things other than buttons and today I am doing just that. The cactus was a great surprise as I only spotted it late in the afternoon. I am not a real gardener like my mother was but I like some plants around me.
The drawing is another of my interests which gives me lots of pleasure as my button collecting does. It is always nice to share I think.
CACTUS FLOWER
I had a pleasant surprise recently when my cactus plant produced a lovely flower. It is the first one for me. I was lucky to photograph it as it only lasted a day. I would like to share it.
DRAWING JOURNAL
I love to draw and paint and have a regular get together with my friend Di to do some sketching. It is a lovely way to spend an arvo with music in the background, a cup of tea, some chatting and of course sketching. The time goes so quickly. My current book is of pencil sketches of around Shepparton where I live. Here are a few of them.
METAL BUTTONS
Here are two more painted tin buttons which have a geometric design which I think are from the 1930’s. They also have a tin back and shank.
METAL BUTTON
This button is pressed tin in a basketweave pattern and has been painted white. The back is also painted and it measures just over 2 cm.
GLASS BUTTON
This is the final glass button from Tokyo, Japan. It has blue and green paintwork also with a blackened back. There is a lot of gold lustre on the front and I think the overall effect is very pleasing. It has a metal four way box shank and measures 2 1/2 cm.
PLASTIC BUTTONS
My friend Jacqui found this group of old buttons amongst her sewing bits and pieces. They are nearly all plastic buttons of some sort mostly in a shade of brown.
FABRIC COVERED BUTTONS
These Fabric covered buttons are rather large and would have been used I suggest on an overcoat. Maybe they are from the 1960’s – 70’s. The colours would suggest so.
