BAKELITE BUTTON

Here is an Applejuice Bakelite button in an octogen shape. It has been reverse carved and painted in gold in a leafy design which is rather effective. It measures 3 1/2cm and is a sew through type button.

GLASS BUTTONS

These two buttons are of blue glass, one being a realistic leaf shape with a painted water lily. The other just has a circle of small flowers painted in the middle. They are quite pretty. As often is the case the paint work is a little worn.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a heavy metal button with a brass open work floral design overlaid on the base. It also features three cut steels in the centre of the flowers and has a metal loop shank. It measures 3 cm.

INDIAN BUTTONS

This group of buttons are modern and were made in India. One is of horn with a triangular brass inlay. The two bone buttons have been carved and dyed. They have a certain homemade charm about them I think.

METAL BUTTON

Queen Victoria is featured on this brass button. It has a backmark ” Austrian Make ” and a loop shank. It measures just over 1 1/2cm.

HORN BUTTONS

There are two horn buttons here, one being old and the other quite modern. One is a sew through type button with a scrolly border. The modern one has a brass loop shank and features a carved star shape.

KEYRING THIMBLECASE

This is a little keyring come thimble sewing kit. What a novelty. On removing the thimble there is a tiny reel of cotton and some needles. It is made of brass and leather and is also a new addition to my sewing collection.

NEEDLECASE

Here is another plastic needlecase with roses on the front cover. It is made by The British Needle Co. Ltd. You don’t buy needles this way these days. How nice to have all your needles together in a folder. I wonder what era it comes from; maybe 1950’s – 60’s?

METAL BUTTONS

Here are three metal buttons in the shape of a flower. They have a pearl centre which sets them off nicely. They are new to my collection.

VINCONA BUTTON CARD

These buttons are from a Vincona Pty. Ltd. Sales Rep card from 1998. They are of various designs and made from some type of plastic ( maybe acrylic or polyester ) It is interesting to have the card to identify their age.
