BAKELITE BUTTONS

I love the old Bakelite buttons, especially the carved ones. I also love the ones with metal escutcheons none of which are in this particular photo. Here is a nice group I have ready to card up for display.

CELLULOID BUTTONS

These buttons are very effective with their colours of bluey/green and yellow. Their design has a sort of geometric flavour.

CELLULOID BUCKLE

This buckle is made of Celluloid in a light green colour. The decoration in red, green and black is in the Art Deco style. I would certainly enhance a dress belt in the 1930’s era.

PLASTIC BUCKLE

This black buckle is of pressed plastic with a floral design around the edge. It is quite decorative and would make a nice addition to a dress belt.

ANOTHER OPP SHOP FIND

This opp shop find is modern with a scribbled line on a plain back of white metal. It is quite artistic in it’s way.

OPP SHOP FINDS

These four plastic tubular shaped buttons are just a bit different with the metalized plastic decorative trim and attached shank. They are just over 1 1/2cm in length.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF BUTTONS

Button Collecting is an enjoyable and fascinating hobby for both young and old. A lot of the fun is in the hunt, be it in opp shops, antique fairs or whatever. The thrill is to find a lovely button in amongst a mixed lot. I have now been collecting buttons for about 15 years and the thrill of a great find remains as it was in the beginning. You can learn a lot about history, mythology, opera and the likes as these are all displayed on buttons. I consider them to be little works of art and by sharing my collection I hope you will get as much enjoyment out of them as I certainly do.
