These two perspex buttons are quite jazzy with their decorative metal disc in the centre. The wavy lines are brought about by undulations on the back which is then painted silver and shows through to the front. They have a self shank.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
Here are three Celluloid buttons, two being sew through type. They all have a geometric design and are from the 1930’s. They have a japanned tin back which is common on a lot of celluloid buttons.
ENAMEL BUTTON

This enamelled brass button is probably from the 1890-1900 period. It has a black background with dainty flowers painted on it. The border is of Cut Steel and it has a metal loop shank.
COCONUT SHELL BUTTONS
Here are three coconut shell buttons of similar design but in different colours. They have a thick high gloss coating on them and are sew through type. They measure 2 1/2 cm.
SILVER BUCKLE

Here is a Silver Art Nouveau two piece buckle. It features fuschias and flowing leaves in a typical style of the period. It may have been a nurse’s buckle from the early 1900’s.
BRASS BUCKLE

This is a two piece brass buckle with an Egyptian theme. It has carved jade stones in the corners which really stand out. It is rather unique.
PLASTIC BUCKLES

These three black and white buckles are of plastic ( probably casein ) and are quite showy in their simple geometric designs. They are from the 1930’s – 40’s period.
GLASS PAPERWEIGHT BUTTON
Here is a brightly coloured glass paperweight button. It is a sort of abstract design of a butterfly and flower on a white background. It has a metal loop shank and measures just under 2 1/2 cm.
METAL PICTURE BUTTON

This is one of my favourite metal picture buttons and it is called “Woodland Vows” It depicts a man and a lady carving their initials in a tree. It is made of brass, part being tinted purple. It has a white metal rim inside the decorative border and measures 3 1/2 cm. The back is Japanned tin with a metal loop shank.
GAY NINETIES BUTTON

Here is a button from the 1890’s made of brass which has been tinted with a purple glass “jewel”. It has a pretty design and a decorative border and measures just over 3 1/2 cm.
