Here are twelve small metal buttons trimmed with brown suede and cream celluloid. They are very effective. They have a japanned back and metal loop shank.
GLASS BUTTON

Here is an oval white glass button with a Cameo type lady’s head on it. It has a painted purple background and an ochre wash over the hair giving it a really nice look. It has a self shank.
HORN BUTTON

Here is a horn button which has been inlaid with both silver and brass. It has a flower and a bird finely crafted on it. The border is also inlaid silver. It has a brass loop shank and measures 2 1/4 cm.
HEAD BUTTON
This is a really nice button with a Cameo claw set into the white metal. The border is quite decorative too. I do not know what the Cameo is made of and it has a 1920’s look about it.
GLASS BUTTONS

Here is a set of six white glass waistcoat buttons with a green top with fine sparkly inclusions. They have a metal plate and loop shank with split pins to attach them.
BOX OF BUTTONS
This is an original box of Bingeman & Baxter fine buttons of Rochester, N.Y. They are beautifully made black fabric buttons with a black velvet centre, metal back and pad shank. They measure 12 mm so are not very big. Printed on the sides of the box are Manufactured expressly for Fine Tailoring Trade and Extra Quality Durability Guaranteed. The lid lifts up in the middle. It is lovely to have it in reasonable order.
ENAMEL BUTTON

Here is a cold enamel button in the Art Nouveau style. It is a very pleasing design with deep green enamel offsetting the floral design on a white background. Although it is not as showy as the full gloss enamels it is still a favourite of mine. I have an article and photograph from a 2012 NBB Journal showing a three piece Silk Pongee Suit with enamel buttons circa 1900 – 1906. There are two different designs used but those used on the cuffs are identical design to this button only in another colour scheme. I was really thrilled to find this article. It is nice to see what garment the buttons are used on.
SATSUMA BUTTON

Here is a Japanese hand painted Satsuma button. It features a Geisha Girl with a sunshade and is quite colourful with a lot of gold paintwork. It measures 3 cm in diameter.
MODERN BUTTONS

Here are five modern buttons depicting nursery rhymes. They are part of a commercial polyester set made for Blumenthal Company and are backmarked B/L 96. They are realistic buttons and their colours are bright and cheery. They show Little Miss Muffet, Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty and Jack be Nimble and are just a bit of fun.
GAY NINETIES BUTTON

This Gay Nineties button has a beautifully coloured purple stone in the centre. It is set in brass which has been embossed in a lovely design. It appears to have been painted purple in the plain brass areas and would have been really striking in it’s original condition. I still like it anyway.
