GLASS BUTTONS

These white glass buttons are not very big at a little under 1 1/2 cm. They have a sort of geometric design in bright colours and black and have a metal four way box shank so must be reasonably old.

GLASS BUTTONS

I do like glass buttons and purple is one of my favourite colours. Here is a nice little group of purple moulded glass buttons. One is a sew through while the others have self shanks. All the designs are different and it never fails to amaze me all the different patterns and designs you find on buttons.

GLASS BUTTON

This Uranium Glass button is rather nice being white with a black scrolly design on the three sides which have been sloped down forming a triangle space in the middle. Of course when you shine a UV light onto it the white turns green. It has a self shank and measures 3 cm.

BUTTON CARDS

These two button cards are replicas and have been mounted with pressed plastic buttons from the 1930s. The art work on them is colourful and relevant for the time and much more interesting than today’s plain cards. I bought them in a button/craft shop in Melbourne quite a few years ago.

BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

Here is a group of black glass buttons which I have in a drawer. They are many and varied; some with silver lustre. I do like black glass buttons but they do not photograph well.

ENAMEL BUTTON

O

This is one of my favourite modern buttons. It is a very colourful enamel button which I think may have been made in Japan. Orange and blue are complimentary colours so they really zing. I do not know why there is a hole on each side but I am sure there is a technical reason. It measures 2 1/2 cm.

MODERN BUTTON

This button was given to me by Sonia the Button Lady who said all button collectors should have one of these buttons. Of course I said thank you !! We may be mad but are happy being so. It is a whacky clockface and I think comes from the story Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter. It sits on my button cabinet and I can see it every day and have a little chuckle.

CHARM STRING !

This string of buttons was in a bottle of buttons I got at the opp shop. I can imagine a little girl at her Granny’s place on a wet day playing with the buttons and threading them. The buttons are quite ordinary but I thought I would keep them as they were on the string anyway.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

Here are some pressed plastic buttons from the 1930s in their original tubes. As the label shows they are Astor buttons. I like the subtle colours of these buttons and the simple designs pressed into them.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

These two plastic buttons are made by Artid in England. I am not so keen on them so only have these two just as an example. As far as I know they are all white with a plain colour background and the design in white.
