PLASTIC BUTTONS

These two buttons are only plastic but they look quite smart. The one on the left even resembles black glass with a gold lustre. All types of materials can be replicated in plastic. Many of the buttons of today are plastic.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

Here are some old plastic buttons in a realistic daisy shape. Some are pearlized and the others are just plain bright colours. I do not really know their age but guess maybe about the 1940s. I wish I could date modern buttons. I guess they were a popular design being made in so many colours.

CHRISTMAS TIME

Well it’s that time of year again when we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and healthy new year. May there be a few buttons to go around in 2024. This Christmas button shows Santa skating on the snow and looking fit and healthy.

ENAMEL BUTTONS

I won these buttons in a raffle at TVBCC Buttonfest a few years ago which was lucky for me. They are antique brass and enamel buttons with a delicate floral design. The brass is nicely patterned too. They measure just under 2 1/2 cm.

VARIOUS BUTTONS

These buttons are special to me as they were given as a Christmas present a few years ago by my nephew Graeme in Melbourne. He especially went to a shop ( I think Spotlight ) and chose them. They were a great surprise and much appreciated.

CINNIBAR BUTTON

This is a Cinnibar button which has been carved in a floral design. It is mounted in a tin back which is painted red. Red is the most common colour but others do happen. It has a brass loop shank and measures nearly 3 1/2 cm. It is the only Cinnibar button that I have and I have a buckle too.

GLASS BUTTONS

Here is a set of six buttons of glass set in metal. The glass is a lovely purple colour, much nicer in reality. They are an elongated oval shape and quite different. I do not know what era they would be from but I think they are fairly old.

PORCELAIN BUTTONS

These two porcelain buttons were made by Mack in Stoke on Trent, England. They are transfer printed with the border being hand painted. They look quite delicate but I think are sturdy enough. I now have five of them in my collection.

METALIZED PLASTIC BUTTONS

Here are some more metalized plastic buttons this time in gold. They could be guessed to be metal buttons but that is not the case. There were hundreds of them made so they are quite common and were very easy to find a few years back.

METALIZED PLASTIC BUTTONS

Here are some metalized plastic buttons in a silver colour. To me some of them resemble black glass buttons with a silver lustre from the early 1900s. Plastics can imitate all sorts of materials these days. I have many of these type buttons as well as gold ones and most of them have been found in opp shops over the years.
