ENAMEL BUTTON

This button is fairly plain but I bought it because it had a map of Australia on it. It is a white metal with blue enamel. I guess it was not made for any special occasion as there are no words on the front. It has a backmark which I cannot read. It measures a little over 1 1/2cm.

BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

These two black glass with silver lustre buttons are both really nice but do not show off to their best advantage in the photos. They both have a metal four way box shank and measure between 2 1/2 and 3 cm.

CELLULOID BUTTON

This moulded celluloid button is much too tizzy for me. I am not a lover of pink or pastel colours as this definitely is. It is delicately made. I can’t imagine what fabric you would use it on, maybe a plain white or pastel shade. It measures just under 2 1/2 cm which is a common size. That would be near enough to 36 lignes in button measurement.

PLASTIC BUTTON

Here is a plastic ball shaped button which I think may be Casein. It has been coated in red and then cut away in a star shape revealing the white underneath. It would be quite striking on a white cotton dress or maybe red and white stripes. I guess it is from the late 1930s or 1940s.

BLACK GLASS BUTTON

Here is a black glass imitation fabric button showing a pink flower. The middle section is smooth but the two sides have ridges on them. It has a self shank and measures a little over 2 1/2cm.

FABRIC BUTTONS

Laminated with a tough resilient resin this fabric is then formed into buttons. The fabric is quite delicate and to me resembles Liberty. They have a metal back and loop shank and measure 22 mm. They were made in Denmark.

BONE BUTTON

This is a modern bone button which I think was made in India. It has been dyed with a brown colour and embellished with an ornamental brass band featuring a floral design. It has a brass loop shank and measures 4 cm X 2 1/2 cm.

CELLULOID BUTTONS

Here are three common type Celluloid buttons with geometric designs and various colours. As usual they have a japanned back and are not very large at between 1 1/2 & 2 cm. I do like the colour combinations.

CELLULOID BUTTONS

These two celluloid buttons are much brighter in reality and are quite different to a lot of my other celluloid buttons. They are cream, green and orange and have highlights in gold. They have a japanned back and measure a little over 1 1/2 cm.
