GLASS BUTTON

This glass button is much nicer in reality as it is a greenish blue and features 2 birds under an umbrella which do not show up so well in the photo. It has a metal four way box shank and measures just over 2 1/2 cm. It also is new to my collection.

WALT DISNEY CHARACTER BUTTONS

Here are two Goofie buttons which I have just acquired. I already have a Mickey Mouse and two Donald Duck buttons as well which are from the same range. I believe they were made in Australia in the 1940s. The paintwork is a bit worn on the Goofie buttons but that is understandable considering their age and that they are children’s buttons. I wonder how many Disney characters were made in this range. They are two piece tin buttons.

METAL BUTTONS

These two buttons are new to my collection and both have interesting designs in a sort of filigree style. There were lots of this type of button made and I think some of them were made in Czechoslovakia. The square one is just a little bit different.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a metal picture button showing a cornucopia full of flowers. It is a brass button with a japanned back and metal loop shank. It measures 3 cm. I imagine it would be fairly old, maybe early 1900s. I wish I knew more about dating buttons. It is new to my collection.

LITHOGRAPH BUTTON

This is a tiny Lithograph button featuring Queen Victoria. I guess it is from the late 1890s or early 1900s. The portrait shows the Queen in all her regalia. She looks rather stern.

BUTTON CARD

Here is an old original button card marked Exclusive Buttons, Made in Germany. There are six buttons made of plastic ( maybe Bakelite ) in mottley purple and fawn colours. They have an arc of ridged lines to one side and are quite thick. They are sew through type and measure just under 3 1/2 cm and are of a fairly good quality.

COCONUT SHELL BUTTONS

These Coconut Shell buttons on their original cards were packed in Thailand and made in China. I bought them new in 2008 when they were quite plentiful. The geometrical designs were probably done by lazer. They are all sew through type.

ORIGINAL BUTTON CARD

Here is a large original button card displaying 24 buttons which was a common number in years gone by. They are marked Superfine Quality buttons and Best British Manufacture. They certainly are good quality and are a deep purple thread wound over I guess a wooden button mould. There is also a single gold thread crossed over them too. I do not know their actual age but guess they are very old. It is nice to have the card intact with all buttons.

BAKELITE BUTTONS

These three Bakelite buttons are Art Deco style and just a little different being square. They are three different colours with the Applejuice bakelite sides. They are sew through type and make quite a nice little group.

BAKELITE BUTTON

Here is a large dark brown bakelite button with a white metal embellishment. Set in a brass rim in the middle is a large white glass stone. Dark brown is a very popular colour in Bakelite buttons. It has a metal loop shank
