This button was a gift from my friend Di and I believe it is of Horn with the central area being bone. It is quite striking being black and white and measures 4 cm. It is a modern button.

All things buttons & more …
I think this button is made from horn and is modern. The design is simple but very effective. It is a sew through type and measures 3 cm square.
Both of these buttons are blonde horn, one having some carving and a brass centre, the other an embossed brass strip across it. They are approximately 2 1/2cm. in diameter.
This is a blonde horn button with an Art Nouveau type silver escutcheon in the centre. It is just over 3 cm so quite large.
This horn button is moulded or pressed to achieve the lovely dog’s head in relief. It has a metal loop shank fitted into the back and is 2 1/2 cm.
I like this button which is horn with a pressed brass head on top.
It suits this small ornate metal frame and I have it in one of my glass display cabinets amongst the buttons. I do not know if the head is of somebody famous.
On their original card, these buttons are handcrafted.
I think I may have got them from an opp shop, certainly not from New Zealand when I was there in 1964. I hadn’t thought of buttons back then.
This button is horn with brass and silver inlaid design. There is a nice silver border while in the middle is a flower and a bird. Oh so sweet!
I really like these two buttons. They are blonde horn both with silver inlay in floral patterns. They show some wear and tear but they are from the late 1890’s or early 1900’s so that is very understandable.
