This set of six silver buttons were made in Siam (now Thailand)
They feature elephants, a popular symbol on many Thai items. The elephant may be their National Emblem, I am not sure.
Here is a boxed set of three silver studs. They are leaf shaped with some etching on them and are quite small at 1 1/2 x 1 cm.
The box itself is beautifully made with two shades of leather and a tiny clasp. Back in those old days everything was made so well. It seems odd to be three studs.
Here is a nice little set of four silver filigree buttons. They are just under 1 1/2cm so quite small.
The box has the initials C.E.U. in gold on the lid so I guess that they were a gift. It was a popular thing to do in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s especially for a 21st birthday gift.
This boxed set of buttons was given to me by a man in our village after his wife had passed away. He thought they would have a good home and Mary would be happy. Well, they do have a good home and I am happy to have them.
The blue enamelling is very catchy with the white border. They are silver backed.
It is great to have some sets of buttons in their original box. Both of these sets are Enamel. One lot are small square buttons looking like a box with a brilliant blue flower. The other set are also bright blue, round and with a little pink flower. They are both lovely, although quite different. In the late 1890’s and early 1900’s, these boxed sets were a popular gift for say a 21st birthday present. Of course they both have the attaching clips.
