HEAD BUTTONS

Here are three Head buttons of different materials and featuring quite different heads. A couple have headwear. It would be interesting to know who they are and if they are of any importance. They are only small buttons.

GLASS BUTTONS

The saying goes “Blue and Green should never be seen” but I don’t agree. Look at all the lovely blue flowers in the garden. So here is a green moulded glass button with a blue flower and a blue button with a variety of coloured flowers. Flowers are a popular subject matter for button designs no matter the material.

GLASS BUTTONS

Here are three orange glass buttons with painted design. I like orange as it is nice and bright but it was not a popular colour in buttons. As usual the paintwork is rather worn which is often the case. To get a button with very good paintwork is a bonus.

CUT STEEL BUTTON

I know this button features a scene from a fable or mythology but I don’t know it. I am not good at history and the likes. It has a decorative border with Cut Steels and measures 4 cm so is quite large.

CERAMIC BUTTONS

This is a set of Ceramic buttons on which are drawn various types of fruit. They are very simply drawn and outlined in black. They are quite small measuring just 1 1/2 cm. They have a high glaze.

CERAMIC BUTTONS

These three buttons are modern and just have a simple design glazed onto them. They would look good on a natural coloured linen dress or a hand knitted neutral coloured cardigan. I particularly like the square one which looks like it comes from nature.

CELLULOID BACK BUTTONS

Here are two Celluloid Back buttons from the Victorian period. They have both been tinted purple which is an unusual combination with the earthy colours of the celluloid. A lot of my other buttons are simply fawn , brown or black. One has cut steels added to it’s design. They are just a bit different.

GAY NINETIES BUTTON

Here is a Gay Nineties button with a lovely purplish coloured stone in the centre. It is one of the first ones that I bought. It has a decorative border which enhances the button. It measures 4 cm so is quite a nice size.

PORCELAIN BUTTON

Here is a Satsuma porcelain button made in Japan. This one shows 3 Geisha girls. The ones with people on them are harder to find and more expensive. Like many collectors I like Satsuma buttons and have quite a nice collection of them. The really modern ones I feel are not as interesting as the older ones.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a modern gilded metal realistic button in the shape of a flower. It was made in Thailand and bought in Bangkok by my friend several years ago. The petals are very well shaped and the stamens stand up straight in the middle. It has a loop shank and measures 2 cm.
