Here is a group of six Celluloid buttons of various designs and sizes. They are all of earthy colours which were popular in the 1930’s and 40’s. They blend nicely together in the frame.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
NOVELTY BUTTON
This is a new wooden realistic button of a rabbit in a pink dress. It is just a cute if not servicable button. My friend Di gave it to me not so long ago.
CAMEO AND DIAMENTES BUTTON
This is an interesting button combining brass, paste and glass. It has a small glass cameo of a lady’s head which unfortunately has been cracked. I still think it is a smart button.
SILVER AND ENAMEL BUTTON
I think this button is of silver with royal blue enamelling. It features a map of Australia and I bought it purely for that reason. It has a backmark which I cannot read.
BUTTON FOLDER
This folder of Bone buttons comes from Italy and is marked “Ultima Novita” which translates as Latest or Utmost Novelty. It also says “Indespensabile in Ogni Famiglia” meaning Necessary in every family. It is complete with no buttons missing which is great.
MY SKETCH BOOK
How about another little diversion from buttons? As previously mentioned I enjoy painting and sketching and here is some of the art from one of my sketchbooks. They are mainly a combination of pencils and/or water colours. It is a very relaxing hobby for me which I share with my friend Di.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
Here are two Buffed Celluloid buttons featuring a bunch of grapes which are very realistic. They are two different colours, have a celluloid back and shank and measure a little over 2 cm.
PERFUME BUTTONS
Here are some Perfume buttons, some with the fabric nearly worn off. They come from the late 1890’s and early 1900’s and were very popular.
PERSPEX BUTTON
This clear perspex button has a floral design cut away on the back which shows through to the front. It is a sew through type and measures 2 1/2 cm.
STUDIO BUTTON
This button was made by Shirley Shaw from USA in 1989. It is in a Satsuma style (with two Oriental ladies and some writing on the left) and is very large at 6 cm.
