This metal ( probably tin ) button has been painted black with a floral design in pinks and gold added. The back is japanned and has a metal loop shank.

FABRIC COVERED BUTTONS
Here is a group of small fabric covered buttons from years gone by. It is always fascinating to see the different colours and patterns of older fabric to compare with today.
It all demonstrates the history of fashions of the period.
PERSPEX BUTTON
This is an octagonal shaped amber coloured perspex button.
It has a floral design cut and painted on the reverse. I have shown both sides.
GLASS BUTTON
Here we have a spindle shaped button made from matte finish clear glass with a silver lustre. It is just a bit different and although simple in design I think it is effective.
GLASS BUTTONS
These three buttons are Art Deco in style and are all green glass with a silver lustre.
They are all the same size ( just over 2 cm ) and have self shanks.
REPRODUCTION BUTTONS
Here are four white metal buttons being reproduced for La Mode. They were made in Italy and France. They are all made of metal.
No 1 : 1941 repro – A nice simple flower design on a plain background.
No 2: 1890 repro – A rider on his horse carrying a horn.
No 3: 1900-1910 repro – A beautifully sculptured lady in the Art Nouveau style.
No 4: 1860-1899 repro – A quite intricate scrolly design.
I think it is nice that they have reproduced some designs. I would love to see some of the original buttons to compare.
VEGETABLE IVORY BUTTONS
All of these Vegetable Ivory buttons have been dyed red which shows in the areas carved into the “flesh”of the nut. Some black dye has also been used and gives a great geometric look. The larger ones are 2 1/2cm and the small ones 1 1/2c.
They are all sew through buttons.
ART DECO BUTTONS
These buttons are a lovely mottley green colour in a rectangular type of shape. They have a narrow strip of tin across them and are very thin. Their style is typically Art Deco.
METAL BUTTON
Here is a mid 19th Century brass button.
The back is also brass and backmarked Rich Orange Colour & Gilt but has a canvas pad shank which is quite a different combination. It is a little over 2 cm.

URANIUM GLASS BUTTON
Here we have two realistic Uranium glass buttons in the shape of a flower. They have some gold lustre in the centre and have a brass four way box shank.
I have shown them with a UV light shining on them also which turns them quite green indicating the uranium content.
