These buttons are special to me as they were given as a Christmas present a few years ago by my nephew Graeme in Melbourne. He especially went to a shop ( I think Spotlight ) and chose them. They were a great surprise and much appreciated.

This is a Cinnibar button which has been carved in a floral design. It is mounted in a tin back which is painted red. Red is the most common colour but others do happen. It has a brass loop shank and measures nearly 3 1/2 cm. It is the only Cinnibar button that I have and I have a buckle too.

Here is a set of six buttons of glass set in metal. The glass is a lovely purple colour, much nicer in reality. They are an elongated oval shape and quite different. I do not know what era they would be from but I think they are fairly old.

These two porcelain buttons were made by Mack in Stoke on Trent, England. They are transfer printed with the border being hand painted. They look quite delicate but I think are sturdy enough. I now have five of them in my collection.

Here are some more metalized plastic buttons this time in gold. They could be guessed to be metal buttons but that is not the case. There were hundreds of them made so they are quite common and were very easy to find a few years back.

Here are some metalized plastic buttons in a silver colour. To me some of them resemble black glass buttons with a silver lustre from the early 1900s. Plastics can imitate all sorts of materials these days. I have many of these type buttons as well as gold ones and most of them have been found in opp shops over the years.

Here is a set of Button Covers showing a Cameo lady. Although they are only a synthetic material they still look quite nice. They were quite a unique item and popular around about the 1980s. As you can see they open up and slide over a plain existing button and snap shut thus altering the appearance of the garment.

I embroidered this button in 2019 and it took some time as it is quite large at 5 cm. Pink is not one of my favourite colours but it contrasts nicely with the various greens. I doubt if I could see to do it now. The embroidery is not the best but it has a homemade look about it.

Here is a group of old fabric covered buttons. It is interesting to look at the various fabrics and compare them with the brightly coloured fabrics of today. The second picture shows some of the different backs of fabric buttons. You can still buy button making kits and they are different again. Nothing stays the same!

I do not remember where I got this enamelled white metal button from. I just wanted to have it because of the map of Australia. It has a backmark which I cannot read. The enamel is a bright blue leaving the metal map. It is not very big at a little over 1 1/2 cm.
