This is one of my favourite buttons and I really enjoy the etching of a Geisha Girl with just a subtle touch of colour. It is beautifully drawn and placed on the button with the parasol as a backdrop. It is a good size measuring 3 1/2 cm.

These three brass buttons all have a little enamel decoration on them. They are all different shapes. I have had them for many years and still enjoy them. The little one measures just 1 cm and they each have a metal loop shank.

This Satsuma button is quite different to many of my other ones. The background is completely gold which is a great contrast to the purple, orange and green of what I think of as abstract flowers. I bought it because I loved the colour combination. It measures 2 1/2 cm.

You certainly wouldn’t call this button pretty but it is definitely different. It is a pressed metal button in the shape of a leaf upon which is an insect. The leaf is quite detailed in shape and with veins showing. Who would ever use this button on a garment I cannot imagine. It measures a little over 2 1/2 cm.

Here are two snake skin buttons. They are quite a nice colour and have a high gloss coating. They have a tin back and metal loop shank and measure a little over 2 cm.

Here is a metal picture button with a floral design. A brass flower on a black rippled background fills the circle. The crescent shaped border has a white metal back on top of which is a brass small floral design. It has a japanned back and metal loop shank and measures a little over 3 1/2 cm,

Here is a set of six handmade porcelain buttons made by Tracey Sharkey in 2007. They are transfer printed and feature Australian birds and animals. I got them at the Bendigo Art Gallery gift shop. I have a few of her buttons in my collection.

Here is a group of modern bone buttons which I think were made in Nepal. They have been dyed and some carving forming a pattern. They would be most suitable for a natural home spun knitted cardigan or a bulky woollen fabric jacket. They are possibly cattle bone.

I bought these buttons at Millers Department Store in Benalla recently together with some coconut shell buttons. They seem to have some different buttons to those in the Shepparton stores. Three are plastic of some kind while the one at the bottom is metal. They are quite different in their design and will be a collectable of the future.

In the same $2 jar of buttons were these four buttons. Three of them are white metal buttons with a tin back. The gold one is a metalized plastic button. I had none of these buttons so that was a plus. They were all in good order too.
