Today is 1st June, first day of Winter for us here in Australia. I quite like Winter as I feel the heat much more than the cold. To be inside and it is pouring rain or windy gives me a comfy feeling likewise to get into my dressing gown at say 5pm and snuggle in for the evening is lovely. We have had some beautiful Autumn days, good to be out and about. It is actually sunny now and I am going with my friend Di for a drive to Numurkah ( half an hour away) to look in the opp shops and have lunch. What a nice way to spend a few hours and who knows what we might find. We had a great bonanza last time we went there, maybe a few buttons. I have a house full of treasures!! (room for a few more still) Let us all have a nice day whatever.
HELLO THERE!!
I am still alive and kicking but have been most unwell for a few weeks and not able to do my daily post which I have missed, however I am on the way up again and look forward to my button photography and chatting on the laptop. That is what it is for, recording lovely buttons and sharing them with someone else while also helping me to be in touch with people. Maybe my website might encourage someone else to start collecting buttons and get the same pleasure that I do from the search and in getting some nice ones and also meeting people with similar interests. They are all plusses.
So I have just posted another Beatrix Potter post and will do a different one next time. I just wanted to say that I am on the air again.
OLD PLASTIC BUTTONS
This group of black plastic buttons have had a pearl coating of silver colour which really sets them off. It gives them a stripey look because of the ridged lines radiating from the centre. They measure 1 1/2 cm.
A STEP BACK IN TIME (MERRIGUM)
Yesterday was a lovely day so with two friends I went to the Historical Day in a little place called Merrigum. What a great job they do for a tiny community.
They had butter making, ironing with a flat iron, an old wringer, a blacksmith, shearing, old cars, lace making and wood turning, just to name a few. It was just nice wandering around saying “I remember”.
My friend Joyce had a button display and she always gets lots of interest. Lots of old engines and machinery were on display too.
Here are just a few photos to share the experience.
DUTTONS FOR BUTTONS
Duttons for Buttons is a button shop in York, England.
A few of my friends have been to this shop and bought buttons for me. (Aren’t I lucky) The four buttons on this card are all black glass with a gold lustre. My friend Jan bought them in September, 2017 at Duttons. She also took some photos of the shop for me which was nice.
It is always exciting when someone gives me a button. The saying goes “Small things amuse small minds” (No comment)
CERAMIC BUTTONS
Here are two groups of handmade Ceramic buttons which were made in Lima, Peru.
One lot has geometric patterns on a cream ground while the others are realistic flower buttons. I bought them at a fair in 2002. They have a charming handmade look.
THE BUTTON QUEEN SHOP – LONDON
My friend Olwyn bought these buttons at The Button Queen Shop in London in 2011. She is not a collector yet always finds some interesting ones for me and asks them to write some details on the cards . We have a day of reckoning when she comes home.
No. 1 This is a silver button with a simple floral design on a square shape. It is backmarked Made in Deccan and has a Trade Mark. It is circa 1900.
No. 2 This button pictures The Duchess of Devonshire. It is a high relief moulded button and is a 1940’s reproduction of a 19th Century button.
No. 3 These are reverse cut and painted perspex buttons from the 1930’s. I have shown both back and front.
UNUSUAL BUTTON
I find this button really intriguing. It belongs to my friend Di.
The base is a pierced brass circle with an edge rolled under. It has three tiny aqua flowers with gold centres sitting flat then three more bell shaped flowers hanging loose. I think the flowers may be of Celluloid. They are wired through the back to keep them in place. It is quite cute and I have never seen one like it before. It is just under 2 cm in diameter. I love it.
BUTTONS WITH HEADS
One of these head buttons is metalized plastic ( No 3 ) and the other two are actually metal.
I do not know exactly who they represent although one is from Roman or Greek Mythology. They are interesting anyway.
SURPRISE !!!
Buttonsplus has it’s name because buttons are mainly the subject matter. Plus means I can pop in anything that takes my fancy at the time and just for a small sidetrack. One does not know what is around the corner so sidetracks are sometimes fun. That is how I feel anyway. As the old saying goes “A change is as good as a holiday.”
