Here is yet another button from my Opp Shop buy a few weeks ago. I cannot imagine why anyone would like a button like this on their garment but there is no accounting for taste is there. This button reminds me of the New Zealand Tiki from when I was there when I was 21 years old. That is a lifetime ago. From the front the button nearly looks like bone but by the back it is definitely plastic. This button is now in my collection not because of it’s beauty but because it is different.

Here is another enamel button which is new to my collection. It is open work with a floral design and then bordered in cut steel. It measures a little under 3 1/2 cm which is quite a nice size and has a metal loop shank. I like enamel buttons and have quite a collection of them now. But how many is enough?

I was lucky to be able to purchase these two enamelled buttons at last month’s button get together. I don’t get to buy buttons much now as there is nowhere locally to do so although I still check out the Opp Shop regularly. I do like enamel buttons and the open work and cut steel trim on these two are appealing.

Here is another Opp Shop find from a couple of weeks ago. I do not have any others like it. It is painted brass and has an open work border with the centre having painted flowers. It has a metal loop shank. That bottle of buttons was a good find so I was pretty pleased with myself.

This white metal button is new to my collection and I think the detail is rather nice. I have no idea of it’s age. It has a metal loop shank and measures just under 3 cm.

These glass hat buttons are more out of the jar of Opp Shop buttons from last week. They are type of Tyrollean hats. The paint work is not too badly worn and they have no chips which is always good especially on glass buttons. I wonder what era they are from.

These three MOP buttons were a recent find in a jar of buttons from the Opp Shop. They are nicely made and good quality. It is a nice change to have a square button. They measure just under 2 cm.

Here are three handpainted porcelain buttons that I have recently acquired. They all feature Oriental figures in a scene but the photo does not show them up so clearly. I think they may be from the early 1900s but am not sure. I like their colour schemes.

This is not a good photo but the button has an interesting story. I was having a coffee at Muffin Break at Riverside Plaza where I frequent 2 or 3 times a week just for an outing. The owner had on a black top with 3 buttons and I said I am just looking at your buttons, I am a button collector. She said I know, you have shown me some, would you like one, I don’t use the top one. There and then before I could think her offsider cut off the button and it was given to me. So you never know when and where you are going to find a button. She is going to Hong Kong this week and said she will buy some buttons for me, Who knows what may come of it. Those little acts of kindness and surprise make a day.

These two leather buttons are similar size and have a ridge around the edge. One shows an embossed horse’s head; the other just three slits across the middle. They both have a metal loop shank. I guess they would have been worn on a man’s sports jacket.
