Here is a brass button with Cut Steel trim. It features a Roman Soldier with helmet on in the centre and the decorative border has Cut Steels spaced around it. You can see on the back where the steels are individually rivetted in. It measures just under 3 1/2 cm and has a brass loop shank.

Here are three Victorian Celluloid ( or Celluloid Back ) buttons. I like this type of button especially for the delicate metal trim on them all. As common in these buttons the celluloid is usually in the colours of brown, grey, fawn and the likes. No brightly coloured clothes were worn back then. The celluloid is quite often shaded or lightly textured as in these three buttons.

Here is a Satsuma button with a Geisha Girl by a window. It is in shades of pale aqua and orange. The Satsuma buttons with figures on them seem to be harder to find and more pricey. Many have flowers or bamboo pictured on them.

Here are three different Ceramic buttons which have a little bit of age to them. They are different in shape, design and colour. I do not have lots of ceramic or pottery buttons but like the homemade look about them so they are not churned out by the hundreds.

These two Ceramic buttons are terracotta on the back. They are very colourful in shades of blue, green and rust in the form of Peacock feathers and are very effective. They are sew through type and measure a little over 2 cm.

This is a Metal Picture Button featuring an Oriental lady carrying a sunshade. There is a building and maybe a bridge (I am not sure) It is brass as many picture buttons are and measures 3 cm.

These new buttons are all plastic and purple in colour. I love the colour purple so these buttons took my eye. I still occasionally go to the Haberdashery stores and check out their range of buttons. I don’t think so many people buy buttons these days so they don’t vary very often. They are actually quite dear now.

These two shell buttons are new and have had dye splashed on them and have a high gloss finish. They are very colourful and eye catching. You can see the outside of the shell on the back of the button.

Here are two hand made silver buttons made by my friend Di. Her initials are on the back. She was just new to working with silver and had fun making them. She gave them to me as a Xmas present and I was pleased to get them.

Here are three modern metalized plastic buttons with “Pearl” centres. The borders on each one is different and effective it it’s own way. I have many of these type of buttons as they were readily available in the opp shops a few years ago. Some are shiny gold, some silver and with different coloured centres in them.
