WOODEN BUTTONS

Sandra is a button friend of mine and her husband Bob made these wooden buttons.  He has added a button centre in these two.  We watched him make a plain wooden one.

It is nice to have a button which was made by a friend.

WOODEN BUTTONS

These two wooden buttons are really chunky and were probably used on an overcoat. They have been carved.

Being of a natural material they would suit a thick tweed or houndstooth fabric I think.  Who knows what garment they were on.

WOODEN BUTTONS

I find these wooden buttons rather lovely with the toadstools painted on them.

I am fond of toadstools, fungus and the likes so these really appeal to me.  They have a nice natural look about them.

CARVED WOOD BUTTON

My friend Olwyn bought this button for me at The Button Queen Shop in London in 2013.

It is nicely carved and has fine accents of cream, orange and gold paint.  It is quite large at 4  1/2 x 3  1/2 cm.

WOODEN BUTTONS

These three wooden are all fairly large, the smallest being 3 cm.

They all have a pattern pressed into them and have been painted black.  One is a sew through while the other two have wooden shanks incorporated in the back.

WOODEN BUTTONS

Many buttons have been made from wood over the years using different techniques.

The first group of buttons are fairly old ( maybe 1930’s – 40’s ) and have various designs painted on them.  Secondly we have three modern buttons ( possibly made in India ).  One is carved with small circular inlays of brass,  another has Mother of Pearl and fine brass inlays.  The last square one is set into a brass cup and has a decorative brass escutcheon fixed in the middle.

WOODEN BUTTON

Made in Russia, this wooden button has been painted and highly lacquered to give a great finish.  It is signed on the back thus:   MOAYAHOB  1994 and measures  3  1/2cms.  The bright strong colours appealed to me.
