Buttonsplus

These two modern buttons are clear plastic realistics depicting a pansy. They would need to be on a coloured fabric to show up the design.

This Mother of Pearl button has been nicely carved with flowers and leaves in a nice design. It is a sew through type and measures 2 1/2cm.

Here is a new button card which I have just purchased. The buttons were made in China and are a very deep clear plastic. The bottom has been coloured green with some small gold metallic flakes added. It gives a great effect when viewing from the top. They have a metal loop shank.

Here are two beautifully carved mother of pearl buttons. One has three large cut steels in the middle while the other has a scrolly metal trim with four tiny cut steels. They make a nice pair.

Here are two handmade glass buttons made by Di Bloomfield from Victoria. One is red and the other yellow and they are very striking. They have a plastic shank attached.

Here is a trio of small metal buttons featuring heads. One has a border of cut steels. It is always interesting with head buttons to wonder who they really are. They are all approximately 14 mm in diameter.

This is a white glass button with a very colourful design. I think it represents a blue butterfly and a yellow flower. It is rather “abstractish” and is a cheery button. It has a metal loop shank.

This is a lovely floral mosaic button from Italy. It is very colourful and is set in silver. They certainly do a great job of setting all these tiny pieces of glass into a button. It would be fun to watch one being made.

Here are two small metal picture buttons depicting children. They are illustrations from children’s books by Kate Greenaway who was popular in the late 1800’s in England.

This button is probably from the 1930’s. It is black (possibly bakelite) with a metalized plastic rose in the centre. It is quite effective but a fairly common design.
