ART NOUVEAU BUTTON

Here is a nicely designed metal button with flowing lines typical of the Art Nouveau period. It features a flower with 3 cut steel and leaves and also has some paintwork giving it an overall great appearance. As can be seen on the back it has a metal loop shank.

METAL PICTURE BUTTON

This metal picture button features a lizard on the fence rail amongst some flowers. The detail is quite fine. It measures 3 cm. and has a brass loop shank.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a tinted metal button with a bar across the centre encasing painted leaves. It has a white metal rim under the border and the background is corrugated.

METAL BUTTON

This button is a concave shaped brass button with an escutcheon of a sculptured maple leaf sitting in the centre. It is very realistic. It has a brass loop shank.

METAL AND GLASS BUTTONS

These are two decorative metal buttons with facetted black glass centres. They are quite striking. One is backmarked ” GESETZLICH” , “GESCHUTZT”.

SILVER BUTTONS

Here are two silver buttons with monograms embossed on them. I do not know of their significance. They are good quality buttons. One is backmarked “Qualite Superieure” D.F. PARIS. The other one is not so clear and says ” P. Mansvelt ?” HAGE ? They measure 2 1/2 cm.

BLACK GLASS BUTTON

This black glass button looks rather like an eye! It has two grey circles around it and is a domed shape. It has a metal four way box shank.

ENAMEL BUTTON

Here is an enamelled brass button with the backmark E.M. PARIS. It is enamelled in green, white and maroon and has a decorative border. It measures just over 2 cm.

MODERN BUTTON

This button is rather unusual with a chain wrapped around it. I do not know what the base of the button is made of. It is quite chunky and effective.

PLASTIC BUTTONS

These two pressed plastic buttons are from the 1930’s – 40’s. They would have looked nice on a hand knitted jacket of the same colour.
