Buttonsplus

This is a card of hand made porcelain buttons in lovely blues and lilac shades. I bought them at the recent Buttonfest in Melbourne. The colours appealed to me. The two smaller ones remind me of pansies!

Here are three rather nice pearly plastic buttons with a teally green central disc picturing a crane in a bronze metallic colour. They are quite unique and I guess they may be from the 1950’s. They measure just over 2 1/2 cm.

Here are two new enamelled buttons which I have just acquired. They are of a base white metal. The background is white enamel with a black enamel geometric design outlined in silver. They have a really modern look and are good quality.

Here are two different casein buttons in red and white. They both feature a cut away design showing the white underneath. They were a very popular type of button and are both sew through type.

Here are two pressed plastic buttons from the 1930’s – 40’s. They are cream and have a flower painted in black on them making them very striking. It is great to have the paint work in pretty good order too. They measure 1 3/4 cm.

This is a very large button being just over 5 cm. It is patterned in a rustic fashion with a real hand made look about it. It reminds me of hessian bag and ferns. That is how I see it anyway.

Here is an original card with a dozen buttons on it. I bought it recently in Melbourne and I liked the buttons; they have an intriguing pattern. The card says “Haute Mode” (High Fashion) and “Lavable et Incassable” which translates as washable and unbreakable.

With my friends I went to the Buttonfest on 12th October. As usual it was an enjoyable day with thousands of buttons for sale and a lovely display put on by The Victorian Button Collector’s Club. I purchased some lovely buttons for my collection and was also lucky enough to win one of the raffle prizes; 2 enamelled brass buttons which are shown above.

This metal button is modern. It has a pleasing swirly design embossed on it and has been coated with a goldish finish which has rubbed off the top surface showing a copper colour underneath. It is dome shaped and has a rather long self shank.

Here is a red moulded plastic button with daisies forming the design. It is very effective and has a self shank. It measures 2 1/2 cm.
