I bought this silver button recently at The Cobram Antique Fair. The design is rather busy and has a heart incorporated in it. It is backmarked GES VW GESCH and measures 2 1/4cm and has a loop shank.
WOODEN BUTTONS
I have just recently got these two wooden buttons at a Spinners and Weavers Display day. They are large at 6 cm. one having a design etched into it and the other one printed on. I love wood and they just appealed to me ( and I just had to buy something didn’t I !!! )
METALIZED PLASTIC BUTTONS
This group of buttons are from 1990’s onwards. I got them all at Opp shops over a period of a few years. They are metalized plastic in silver or gold with coloured trim of various types and sizes. They are rather glitzy and certainly stand out.
GLASS BUTTON
This black glass button was made in Czechoslovakia. It is a modern button and features Pegassis the Mythological Flying Horse. It has several colours accompanying the gold lustre. It measures a little over 2 1/2cm and has a self shank.
NOVELTY BUTTONS
These two cute buttons are made from Fimo Clay. They are lovely contrasting bright colours and finely made. I have them displayed on a banner of different Novelty buttons.
POUNCE POT
Pounce is a fine powder most often made from powdered Cuttlefish bone. It was used both to dry ink and also to sprinkle on a rough writing surface to make it smooth enough for writing. In the 19th Century Pounce pots or Sanders often had a shallow dish around the top so that pounce or sand could be returned to the pot and re-used. They were in use before blotting paper came into fashion. I purchased this one last weekend at an Antique Fair. I fancied this one with it’s Japanese influence.

Once again black and gold make a good combination for a striking button. These are made of plastic, the gold being metalized.

From the 1990’s period these two buttons are quite showy with the black and gold. Their designs are rather fancy and would look great on the right outfit.
METAL PICTURE BUTTON
Here are two metal picture buttons which are new to my collection. I guess they have a story behind them though I do not know it. They depict a man wielding a flag. They are brass and measure 3 1/2 cm.
GLASS BUTTON
This button actually looks nicer than the photo shows. It is of navy blue glass and has two panels with a diamente look in silver lustre. It has a self shank and I would suggest it is from the Art Deco period.
