I also purchased these plastic buttons in an Antique shop in Tasmania however I do not think they are very old. The clear plastic features white stripes and they are hollow allowing the stripes on the back to show through in the opposite direction which is quite effective. I think they are interesting.

My niece Robin gave me these silver button covers recently. She bought them in U.S.A. several years ago. I think they may be of American Indian design and I really like them.

Here is a modern Netsuke carved out of wood. It features two rats on a boot. I appreciate the workmanship in the carving. I bought it in an Antique shop on my recent holiday to Tasmania. Many are carved from wood and some from bone or in years gone by, Ivory. They fascinate me and I now have a few in my collection.

The orange and brown in the centre of these buttons suggests a stone but it is actually only plastic. Many different materials can be replicated in plastic. The gold border is metalized plastic. The back view shows the plastic shank which is connected to the plastic central disc.

Here are two wooden Gollywog buttons, one a little boy and one a little girl. I think they have been laser cut and are painted in lovely bright colours. How cute are they!

This button comes from the 1960’s and was made in France by Lea Stein. It is a vibrant turquoise colour and has layers of white and green which have been cut away in a swirly design. It is typical of her style of button and measures 18 mm. It was a gift from my friend Carol.

Here is an unusual Celluloid button with a type of bunch of cherries design. It was a gift from my friend Di. I guess it is from the 1930’s period.

This Metal Picture Button features a bird with an umbrella and is made of brass. It is from the late 1800’s and was made in Germany. It is backmarked “EINGETR MUSTER”. My friend Di bought it at the recent Buttonfest in Bendigo for me. Due to ill health I was unable to go.

Here is another wooden button given to me by Sandra. It is a hexagon shaped button and has a ” worm tracks” like pattern on it. It would look nice on a woollen fabric or hand spun and knitted wool garment giving it a natural look.

This hand painted wooden button was recently given to me by my friend Sandra. It is very colourful and although the paintwork is somewhat worn it is still a nice button.
