I purchased these two buttons in The Button Shop, Malvern this week. They are both black plastic imitating the black glass buttons from the 1900’s. What a great copy they are!

JIMMY BUTTONS
I show here three new Mother of Pearl buttons which I purchased in Melbourne. They have been dyed and etched (maybe by laser) It was hard to look in the small shop.
JIMMY BUTTONS
While in Melbourne this week with my nephew Graeme we went to Jimmy Buttons shop in Fitzroy. What a jumble of buttons, laces, ribbons etc. something for everyone.
Here are some photos of the organized clutter in such a small space.
GLASS BUTTONS
All of these glass buttons have a flower theme with a silver lustre.
As usual in old painted buttons they are rather worn. They measure 13 mm.
OLD BUCKLES
Both of these dress buckles were made in Germany. In both cases the Celluloid is mottled and set into a brass rim. I think they are possibly from the 1930’s period.
TWO MATERIALS BUTTON
I do not know the materials of this button. It is a two piece with a pierced brass shell covering what appears to be stone of some kind.
It has an interesting and decorative back which seems a pity to conceal. Depose, Paris is the backmark
DRAWING JOURNAL
Here are two sketches from my drawing journal of recent times. It is now complete and I have started a new book.
Firstly I show a Kookaburra I befriended at a caravan park in Hall’s Gap. I was able to pat it. Secondly there is a Rainbow Bee Eater that I managed to photograph locally. I love to capture these objects of nature both on camera and on paper.
INCOMPARABLE BUTTON
This is a real novelty button. It is yet another Ceramic button made in South Africa. What a fun design. I admire people who can come up with such great ideas. I once lived on a dairy farm but didn’t find cows so “cute” It measures just under 3 cm.
REPRODUCTION BUTTONS
These buttons were in the Craft shops during 2010 – 2011. I was pleased to find them as they reproduce buttons from the 1860’s to 1900 period. I had seen them advertised in a Craft magazine and was keen to find them. They are of brass and measure 2 1/2 cm.
They were made in Italy and were produced by La Mode for Blumenthal Lansing Company in USA.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
Here are three different Celluloid buttons from the 1930’s.
Two are mottled earthy colours while the sew through one is black with iridescent stripes making up the design.
