These button cards are all original and also all the buttons are made of glass. Three lots are made in Czechoslovakia.
The cards are lovely with their gold lettering and have a certain charm about them. They are so different to the cards of buttons in the shops today. Advertising has changed such a lot in the way things are displayed now.
This is a very unusual button although I would suggest not very practical.
I believe it may be bakelite ( not sure!) and has a plastic coated wire wound around it as a trim on the realistic seahorse. It is maybe from the late 1940’s and measures 4 1/2cm X 2 1/2cm.
In this group of buttons one shows a rabbit and two have ducks painted on them with a different colour combination.
Painted buttons suffer a lot of wear and tear, so are not easy to find in good order. I am sure all of these buttons were much loved by the children who wore them. They are from the 1940’s – 50’s.
These three buttons of the same design are made from plastic and are very colourful.
This is such a delicate button and only 1 1/2cm in diameter.
The lady’s face is nicely done in soft colours and very appealing. It is a deep dome shaped button as can easily be seen.
I do not know the age of this button nor the exact material used. It appears new to me although I am not sure.
The flower etched into one side is rather nice with three small diamentes in the centre. The button is angled down on two sides also giving a great effect. It is a lovely deep rich red colour and all in all a great button measuring just under 3 cm.
I bought these six buttons as a boxed set.
They feature a Japanese lady’s head and are just over 1 1/2cm.
I really like the Satsuma porcelain buttons with figures on them but they are much harder to find than the floral designs. I show the set as well as more detail.
Lacy glass buttons are not easy to find. I have always admired them pictured in books and am pleased to have three even though they are not in perfect order.
They have a moulded clear glass pattern then having colours painted on the back plus a final coating which is like a mirror making the colours show through to the front.

Here we have a brass button with some areas painted purple.
It has a black glass centre which contrasts nicely. The brass left showing really adds to the design. It has a metal loop shank and is just over 2 1/2cm in diameter. A smart button I think.
Here are the seven Lucky Immortal Gods of Japan represented on these buttons.
They are Satsuma porcelain buttons full of colour and detail and I love them. I have mounted them on some old kimono fabric in a plain gold frame and they really look great.
This button is interesting in it’s make up. It has strips of embossed brass rolled over to the back making a very different border.
The centre has a pretty filigree pattern. A metal loop shank can be seen on the back. Such a different design!
