All things buttons & more …
Here are some more new additions to my collection.
Actually I bought a small private button collection in November, 2017 so have been having fun sorting and cleaning buttons. What a good hot weather occupation keeping indoors with the cooler!
These are all small metal buttons each with a different design. None are over 1 1/2cm in diameter.
I guess that this button is also from the late 1940’s or 1950’s period.
It has a combination of plastic, brass and as well clear perspex. The brass section has some piercing. A brass pin shank is attached and you can see the top of it in the middle of the perspex. The head is in the shape of a little flower.
The three buttons shown here are from the 1940’s – 50’s.
Two are plastic with brass centres and the other red one is also plastic but with a metalized plastic centre. The centre pieces are quite decorative. It is clever how plastic can be made to look so much like metal.
Mainly imported from Italy, Germany and Switzerland, these buttons were all purchased new in 2011 at The Button Shop in Malvern.
I had great fun choosing buttons from the hundreds in boxes displayed along a wall. They are all very good quality buttons.
This is only a small sample of what I bought. Some more another time!
I bought these new buttons at an old market in Bangkok, Thailand in March, 2014.
They are mainly synthetic I think, having diamentes incorporated into their design. Two are made from black braid.
Whether they are actually made in Thailand, I am not sure but as they are glitzy they may well be.
Green is a favourite colour of mine and here is a nice group of green glass buttons.
I have shown two of the group in detail.
There are so many shades of green as also seen in nature. I think that is why I like it so much.
Here are four MOP buttons all being over 3 cm in diameter.
Three have been carved in different patterns and are sew through style buttons. The other one has a ring of different shell inset into the middle of the button. It has a metal loop shank.
I remember buying this pin cushion at an Antique Fair with my friend Suzanne.
They were selling a pair so we got one each. It has an old charming look about it.
A lot of these plaited leather buttons were made in various patterns over many years.
Some have a leather shank and some a metal loop shank. They were used especially on tweed sports coats in the 1960’s and 70’s and were very suitable. They have a hand made look about them. You can still find them in opp shops today.
Well, 2017 is drawing to a close and it has gone so quickly.
I like to have lots of interests and friends to help things to run smoothly. That is what makes life more interesting. This year has been quite good to me. Lots of outings with friends or visiting them. My friends all have different interests which I can share. Opp shopping, antiques, button collecting, photography, drawing, just to name a few.
Of course the most important thing is sharing. I always say that a problem shared is halved and a pleasure shared is doubled. Well that is my story and I am sticking with it!!!
