Buttonsplus

I have just posted my Button Banter posting to the wrong site! Nothing wrong with my brain. I was going to use the same photo for Buttonsplus so now it is already here. So Happy Christmas just the same.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and may the New Year also bring much happiness and good health. Keep up the posts our little family of Button Banters! I really enjoy them. I feel like we are button friends.

Here are three more Perfume buttons each with different coloured material in them. The blue one sort of has a background of material where the other two just have the cut outs filled. The metal on the middle button has been tinted red giving it a different look. I am always amazed at the variety of designs in buttons.

These three metal buttons each have some fabric incorporated in their design. I have quite a few similar type buttons and I bought them as part of a small private button collection several years ago. I have them in a box and when you open the lid you can smell the perfume even though they are so old. The story goes that the ladies used to put a few drops of perfume on the material to give off a nice scent to distract from other odours. Velvet was a very commonly used fabric.

Here is a Lithograph button which is also new to my collection. It is of course a common portrait and the border is fairly plain. It is quite large at 3 1/2 cm and has a metal loop shank making it the largest one that I have.

Here is a Metal Picture button which is new to my collection. The brass picture is mounted on a steel back. I do not know what the picture represents but will try and find it in the Big Book of Buttons. It is quite a large button measuring a little under 4 cm.

Here is a green glass button which looks more blue in the photo. It has three silver flowers with copper coloured markings. The border is of gold. I only bought it last week and it is larger than I thought it would be. It has a brass shank with thread grooves and measures 2 1/2 cm.

This enamel button is quite new to my collection. It has green enamelled rings broken up with rings of cut steels. The outer border is highlighted with three white patches which have been painted with tiny pink and blue flowers and they are in the tiny centre also. It is an effective design. It measures 3 cm so is a good size.

These three metal buttons are all Paris Backs. They are marked T. W & W Paris or A. P. & Cie Paris showing they were made in Paris. They are little picture buttons and only measure 1 1/2cm. I have nine of them mounted on a card together.

Here are three modern shell buttons depicting the same flower but in different colours. They are very thin and have been painted with the colour and then etched back to reveal the natural shell underneath. They measure 2 1/2 cm and are a two hole sew through type.
