OPP SHOP FINDS

These two buttons are from the Opp Shop which I check out frequently. They are of a blue/grey plastic with a silver coloured diamond in the centre which in a way resembles cut steels. Plastic can imitate many different materials. They would be quite striking on the right coloured dress.

OPP SHOP FIND

This is a button from an Opp Shop jar from a few years back. It is modern and some type of plastic and is an unusual shape. It ranges in colour from white to grey and black. I think it would only be suitable for a coat as it is too chunky for a dress. It has a nice smooth glossy finish.

LEA STEIN BUTTONS

These three buttons were made by Lea Stein and are typical of her work. They are layered and then cut back to reveal all the colours. The colours are more distinct than the photo shows them.

ENAMEL BUTTON

Here is another enamel button in black and white with a small pink rose. It is in the Art Nouveau style and the poppy like flower on the black background is a nice addition. It measures 2 1/4 cm and has a metal loop shank.

ENAMEL BUTTON

\

Here is one of my enamelled buttons. I like it because of the simplicity of the design and that the black and white is effective as well as being a square button. To me some of the enamelled buttons have too many colours and are too busy. Sometimes less is better. Well, that is my story and I am sticking to it !!

GAY NINETIES BUTTON

This is a Gay Nineties button from the 1890s though perhaps you would not call it gay as the colour of the stone is rather dull compared to many other examples. The stone itself though is rather nice. It measures 3 1/2 cm.

FABRIC BUTTON

Here is a very old fabric button with a thread back. The fabric is of a dull no green colour and has a geometric design woven into it. There is no actual shank and you sewed through the threads to attach it.

GLASS BUTTONS

Here is a set of six elongated oval shaped buttons. They are of a nice purple colour and set in metal. They were in a box of buttons a friend gave me many years ago.

GLASS AND METAL BUTTON

This button is of aqua glass set in a white metal mount. The border is a decorative floral one. It measures 3 1/2 cm and has a metal loop shank.

BACHELOR BUTTONS

Here are four Bachelor buttons which I guess were called that because they needed no sewing on. I show the back view where you press the side levers to remove the back and once you have attached the button you just snap the back in place.
