These Ceramic buttons are large at 4 1/2cm.
They are the same design although the different colour schemes makes them look “not the same.” They are made in South Africa and I bought them in Craft Shops. I find them fascinating.
INCOMPARABLE BUTTONS
BAKELITE BUTTONS
These three Bakelite buttons are various shades of brown each with a different pattern. They are all sew through and measure from just over 2 cm to just over 2 1/2 cm.
CUT STEEL BUTTONS
This little group shows one large and two tiny cut steel buttons.
The cut steels are rivetted onto a backing plate and are rather flimsy. They come from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
OLD BUCKLES
Here we have three brass dress buckles.
Their designs are all quite different. They were once very popular as many dresses had a belt – a sign of the times I guess. One has a kind of basketweave background with a floral overlay. The next one has some fine filigree work while the last one is sort of Art Nouveau design.
INCOMPARABLE BUTTONS
These Ceramic buttons have been made by Village women in South Africa and the money raised by their sale goes back to the Village.
They have a great handmade look and they are always displayed on corrugated cardboard which shows them off to great advantage. These two cards have chooks and farm animals and were bought in 2010.

Here are two more cards of Geometric designed buttons bought new in 2008.
I find the colours so striking and effective. How they would stand out on a garment. To me they just look great on the cards.
NOVELTY BUTTONS
I think these Ceramic buttons are quite cute being of animals of the world.
They are nicely made and their simplistic designs are really charming.
BAKELITE BUTTONS
Here is a nice group of Bakelite buttons. Five of them incorporate Applejuice Bakelite with another colour. Four are plain colours with a ridged pattern. They have a certain charm.

HEADS ON BUTTONS
Here are three nice brass buttons each with a head in the centre. One has cut steels around the border and my good friend Suzanne gave it to me for my birthday in 2007. Another one has a fabric background and the last one is all brass. They are each lovely in their own way and are all approx. 1 1/2cm.
ENAMEL BUTTONS
Here are two lovely little enamelled brass buttons.
They are tiny at just over 1 cm. and both have a white background with delicate little flowers on them which is common in a lot of Enamelled buttons. I especially like the design of the one with the four little bars of enamel work.
