All things buttons & more …
At just under 4 1/2 cm this is a large button.
Within a decorative border there is an eagle standing on a globe. I do not know what it represents but there is probably a story to it.
This button is of tinted brass and shows a man and a lady standing in a doorway.
Whether it represents a story or not I do not know but it is quite a nice button. It measures 3 1/2 cm.
Here is another brass picture button.
It depicts two children near what appears to be a well or fountain. The detail is very good. It measures approx 3 1/2 cm.
Both of these buttons are tinted brass in a rusty red colour.
One has a floral design with a type of shell shape encircling a bird. The other one has a little girl’s face within a circle added to a leafy design. They both have a Japanned tin back and metal loop shank and measure approx 3 cm. I think they are both lovely.
The first button is of Neptune (God of the Seas) from Greek Mythology. He holds a Trident (a three pronged spear)
It is stamped and pierced brass over a wooden background with a white metal liner under the rim.
The second one is also stamped and pierced brass with two birds beside an urn of flowers with a decorative border to set it off.
Kate Greenaway was a children’s book illustrator in England in the late 1800’s. She drew lots of little girls in bonnets and flowing dresses.
One button depicts two children sitting on a fence with a sunshade and it is titled “Summer.” It is a pierced white metal button and has been tinted purple. The other one shows four little girls and is of stamped brass. They are both rather small buttons at approx. 1 1/2cm.
The design of these two buttons is the same, the larger one at 3 cm being solid metal and the smaller one at 2 cm being pierced brass.
They feature an Egyptian lady kneeling amongst the flowers. Both have a metal loop shank.
Here is a brass picture button with a figure and I think hunting dogs. I do not know if it represents a special person but he looks very smart with plumed hat and all. It is a little under 3 cm.
ORIENTAL LADY WITH PARASOL
Here is another brass picture button of an Oriental Lady with a Parasol in front of a Japanese building. Once more the detail is good making a pleasing button. It has a japanned back and metal loop shank and measures a little over 3 cm.
GOOSE FLYING
This is a large button being over 4 cm. It shows a goose (or is it a duck!!) flying over the water where three chicks are swimming. It is tinted brass and quite an effective button.
WAVING GOODBYE
The lady stands on the balcony waving a hankie. It is a brass button with a japanned back and metal loop shank. The detail on this button is really great. It measures 3 cm.
FANNY DAVENPORT
This button is brass over a painted tin backing and shows the lady with her umbrella. The brass border lies over a white metal liner. It measures 2 1/2 cm.
