This button is floral with brass leaves and flowers over a silver tin backing. A large brass flower is within the circle at the top.
It has a brass back and measures just under 4 cm.
The first button is made of brass and has a bird on a branch with some flowers. It has a wood background which is a little unusual and a decorative border. It has a brass back and is just under 4 cm.
The second one is also made of brass and has a bird sitting on a fence on a tinted background. It has a japanned back with a loop shank and measures 3 1/2 cm.
My friend Di bought this button for me recently.
It is moulded white metal picturing a lady with a girl at a sewing machine. It is a nice button to give to someone who has been a sewing person for many years like me. It measures 2 1/2 cm x 2 cm.
This button is named “Boy with Hoop” and is of stamped brass. It has a japanned tin back and loop shank.
It is from the 1890’s and the detail is excellent.
My friend Olwyn bought it in 2013 at The Button Queen shop in London for me so I was really pleased.
This white metal button is quite thick and has a man and lady moulded into it.
It sounds hollow and the back has two holes in it. It measures 3 cm in diameter so is a nice size.

These are all lovely examples of Picture buttons with lots of detail. Two have nice decorative borders to compliment the scenes while the Bamboo Princess is a plainer button. They would be late 1890’s or early 1900’s buttons.
Over the years there has been many metal picture buttons made. They represent many topics from Literature, Mythology, Opera and the likes.
In this group we have : PUTTO AT THE FOUNTAIN. A cherub is seated near a fountain. ( 3 1/2 cm.)
TEMPERANTIA. This lady represents the allegorical figure of Temperance. (4 1/2cm.)
RED RIDING HOOD. We see Red Riding Hood in the forest with the Wolf. What a pretty border. ( 4 cm. )
WOODLAND VOWS. A couple carves their initials in a tree. This button has been tinted purple which offsets the brass nicely. (3 1/2 cm.)
All of these buttons have a metal loop shank.
Children’s stories and nursery rhymes are represented in this group. They are all very detailed with the figures in high relief. Two have fancy borders and the other is very plain.
