LACY GLASS BUTTON

Here is a Lacy Glass button. They are very expensive if in mint order but many are paint worn. It is of clear moulded glass with a diamond like design. The coloured paint is applied to the back and it then has a final coat of silver paint. This shows through to the front giving a very showy effect. I have not seen many but have seen some lovely ones in button books. I really like them.

CERAMIC BUTTONS

These two buttons are colourful with their high gloss glaze. They resemble Incomparable buttons made in Sth. Africa but I am not sure if that is what they are. They are sew through type and measure just over 3 cm.

GLASS BUTTONS

These two buttons were made in Czechoslovakia and I bought them in 2009. They are really nice with a gold lustre flower in the centre and a leaf in each corner. Being square makes them a little different. They have a brass loop shank. and are nicer than the photo depicts.

METAL BUTTON

Here is a brass picture button featuring an Oriental lady in her kimono and holding a fan. It is quite large at 3 1/2 cm. When I bought it it was mounted on this orange plastic disc which sets it off nicely, so I have left it so.

DIAMENTE BUTTONS

These two modern buttons are very striking with their bright yellow and purple glass stones. They were bought in China in 2013

GLASS BUTTONS

These six buttons are all the same design but with different colour combinations. They have an Art Nouveau style look about them so guess they may be from the early 1900’s. They have a metal four way box shank.

NEW BUTTON

This plastic button I have just bought. It catches the light where it has been facetted. The centre is silver with black dots. It is a sew through type and measures 2 1/2 cm.

NEW BUTTONS

Here are two more new plastic buttons. One is a dirty yellow in an oval shape with the ends cut off. The other one is maroon and white with some carved lines to one side. They are good examples of current style buttons.

NEW BUTTONS

Here are two new plastic buttons. I have just bought them having gone on an “outing” during this Coronavirus isolation. One is red with a multi coloured oval in the centre. The other is mottled black and white with a tinsel like inclusion. They measure just over 2 cm.

PEARLIZED PLASTIC BUTTONS

Here we have two groups of Pearlized Plastic buttons. The pearl like coating is made from crushed fish scales. I think they are from the 1940’s. Some are sew through type and the others are shanked. They are new to my collection having been just given to me by my friend Sandra.
