Here are two more new plastic buttons. One is a dirty yellow in an oval shape with the ends cut off. The other one is maroon and white with some carved lines to one side. They are good examples of current style buttons.

Here are two new plastic buttons. I have just bought them having gone on an “outing” during this Coronavirus isolation. One is red with a multi coloured oval in the centre. The other is mottled black and white with a tinsel like inclusion. They measure just over 2 cm.

Here we have two groups of Pearlized Plastic buttons. The pearl like coating is made from crushed fish scales. I think they are from the 1940’s. Some are sew through type and the others are shanked. They are new to my collection having been just given to me by my friend Sandra.

Here are three different Ceramic buttons with simple but effective designs. They have a modern look about them. One has a white background while the other two are a taupe colour. They all measure approx. 2 cm.

Here we have a Cut Steel button from the late 1800’s. The cut steels are facetted like a diamond. They are made from old horse shoe nails and you can see on the back of the button where they have been individually rivetted in. The button is a quite open design and measures 3 1/2cm so is reasonably large.

Here are three leather buttons each with stitching around the outside. The black and white square ones are similar with eyelets. The round one has three crosses stitched on it and has a metal loop shank.

These three Lithograph buttons are men’s waistcoat buttons from the 1890’s. They each feature a lady in a large hat, fashionable at the time. They were often made in boxed sets of six and these would have originally been part of a set.

Here are two small groups of Austrian Tinies buttons. As the name implies these little buttons were made in Austria. They are metal with a combination of other materials such as celluloid, pearl and cut steel etc. At only 1 cm in diameter it is amazing the amount of detail is included in these buttons. I find them fascinating as their are so many different designs. They have a domed Japanned back with a metal loop shank. They come from the late 1800’s early 1900’s period.

This enamelled brass button is unusual in it’s brown colouring. It has a white flower painted in the centre and the border is decorative with matte finish paint which is a contrast to the high gloss enamel. A lot of enamel buttons are pink and blue and much more colourful. It measures 3 cm.

Here are some gold metal buttons on their original cards. They were made in Italy and are reproductions of buttons from the period 1860 – 1899. They were produced by Blumenthal Lansing Company from USA under the label La Mode. I purchased them in 2010.
